Vocal Performance:
The clips below are from my performances in Cabaret workshops and open mic nights since 2010. The workshops have been some of the most fun and fulfilling creative collaborations I have ever been involved with. I sang music by Steven Sondheim, Jaques Brel, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, Cole Porter, U2, The Eels, Elton John, and others I never would have imagined singing, as well as inspiring me to write a number of my own original songs.
We collected music from the late 1800’s up to the present day, to create original shows. The music informed and infused the stories, characters, and relationships with surprises, growth, and creative passion. Sometimes we tweaked lyrics to adjust a narrative in a new context or add humor.
Discovering singing, acting, developing characters, and eventually finding the confidence and inspiration to write and perform my own songs in this framework—as well as to create art and animations for the staging of the shows—has been amazing!
And, yes. I have played some very strange characters, such as Elwood Purvis Gentlyˇthe effete crack-addict who could not resist looking at the crack showing above a woman’s waistline as she bends over to pick something up. Then there was the French Douchebag, Phil Devoid, the Talent agent who tried to pick up a nun. And, yes, a cannibal who ate children.

These are not the best recordings—or performances—but, for pulling shows out of thin air, we entertained a lot of people and had a blast.
